Purpose: This poster will describe a citation analysis of the literature of physical therapy involving complementary alternative medicine.

Subjects: Citations of articles on appropriate physical therapy techniques involving complementary alternative medicine published 2000-2002 were analyzed to determine the characteristics of this body of literature.

Brief Description: A search of the MEDLINE database was conducted articles concerning appropriate physical therapy techniques and complementary/alternative medicine (CAM) published 2000-2002. The search was limited to English, human and those articles that were evidence based. The references appearing at the end of those articles were analyzed to determine the characteristics of the literature.

Results: Results of the study will give a description of the literature of CAM in physical therapy, including the format of literature cited and the age of the literature cited. The study will also develop a list of journals important to this field.

Discussion/Conclusion: The results of this study will characterize the nature of the literature of this emerging discipline, including the format, age and major journals. The results can be used by physical therapy clinicians determine target journals for publications avenues, by physical therapy researchers looking for literature in the area of CAM or by librarians who need to identify core journals in this area for collection development.
